Nowadays, people feel ownership over their lifestyles. People like to profess their preferences from the rooftops— “I lost 20 pounds on Atkins and it’s the best diet!” or “Dairy is the devil, once I cut it out of my life my skin cleared up, and I lost five pounds. I’ll never look at butter again!” Furthermore, there is sometimes shaming that comes along with these professions. “You’re going to fail if you do anything other than low carb.” “You’re not really dieting unless you’re doing intermittent fasting.” It can be a lot!
There are lots of options in the realm of dieting. High protein/low carb, vegetarianism, veganism, intermittent fasting, keto, clean eating, flexible dieting are some examples and that’s just scratching the surface. And don’t even get me started on workout plans (I’m looking at you, you crazy Crossfitters!) All of those approaches have worked for some and failed for others and there will always be people vehemently espousing their preferences to you. How do you chose which direction to go in?
My answer might be a little frustrating but it’s the truth: you need to experiment and find what works for you. Everyone’s body is different, everyone’s lifestyle is different. What worked for one person will certainly not work for another. You can listen to someone discuss their obsession with spinning until they’re blue in the face, but if you don’t like the classes then it’s not going to work for you. There is no winning diet, no one size fits all workout, no magical cure for everyone looking to lose weight. You need to find what works for you.
Here at VFD we always listen to our clients and then make recommendations based on their schedule and lifestyle. So it does help to have a trainer in your corner when trying to find what will work. The best way to start is with the simple and scientific approach - calories consumed vs calories burned. In other words, diet and exercise. Easier said than done, BUT it always works when you strictly stick to it over time!
And as always, if you need a little more of a push, just contact us here at Vitality Fitness Delivered. We will work with you to find what jives best with your lifestyle!
